Just completed a Microsoft eLearning course collection: Implementing and Maintaining SQL Server 2008. It’s a great skills tuneup and introduces enhancements and additional features from SQL 2005.
The course takes you through:
- Installing the server,
- Creating and maintaining database and indexes,
- Backup and restore,
- Security,
- Resource maximization and
- Maintaining high availability and Replication.
The illustrative video demonstrations by the instructor were well-done but continued to include the same steps to launch Management Studio. After the first five demonstrations, do you think the student would catch on? These steps take up at least 10% of the running time of each video. How about starting the video with it already launched.
The labs were well constructed and performance was acceptable.
More info on the SQL 2008 offerings from the Microsoft learning site.
